Nail Art is so cool, at one point in my life it had ended. And I thought it was gone forever. Then I realized it was because I was working at a Day Spa...LOL.. At Day Spas clients only want a french manicure. That's the closest I came to doing any kind of nail art. And doing nails became so boring to me.

But, Once I moved into my own salon and start advertising more of the designs I do. Then, I started getting more clients that wanted nail art. Nail art to me relieves stress I just let the paint and the brush do the talking....LOL

I always have nail techs asking how do you do that. You just have to pick out the right colors and just go with the follow. I would like to take a art class. I think the more you let your creative side out the more creative you become. Enjoy the pictures and get to CREATING!!!.. Pull out some paint, glitter, rhinestones and go with the flow.

I think there is a hand full of salons in Houston,Tx that is offering Shellac one being Nail Mogul. I love this product it has brought clients that have not wore anything on their nails back to the salon.
Shellac is one of many gel polish's that if applied correctly will last you 2-3 weeks. I love the product for a number of reasons one it dries with a UV lamp so as you work thur the service each step the product is drying. By the time the service is done the polish is dry...LOL... LOVE It!!!...

Also they polish last my clients 2-3 weeks giving me time to get new clients in my seat. There is no odor and application process is very easy.

The company CND only start with 8 colors, but my clients like to mix colors to create a new color, (smart clients) you can also add designs to nails to give a even funnier look.

PARTY, PARTY,PARTY.....LOL!!!.. Everyone loves a party and the Minx and RockStar Parites and starting to take off in FULL BLAST!!... Women, Girls, Ladies are getting to together to celebrate everything from Graduation, Baby Showers, Birthdays, Divorce Parties....Yes I said Divorce Parties... Anything us women can think about celebrating about we will....LOL... So call up your nearest nail tech. and ask her to host your next girls night out. I have had them as small as 3 women and as large as 13. So any size and any reason get togther and have a NAIL PARTY!!

Below some women came in for Mardi gra we had beads and colors of all sorts going on for Mardi gra. They had a blast and I loved every minute of it.

Then there was the BIRTHDAY PARTY... THIS LADIES RECEIVED MINX AND ROCKSTAR WE PARTIED INTO THE WEEEEEEeeeeee... Hours of the night....LOL.. I was exhausted,but we all had a great time. They left with beautiful nails and I was happy.

Ok, Gel Nails... There is just a wave of them coming out. All of the big name nail companies are creating there own brand of gel polish. I have clients that love the service, Gel Nails are such a refreshing service to offer to clients. Especially clients that want to do something other then acrylics. Some acrylics can be really hard on a clients nails. When adding gel nail services to your menu you have to be very careful and explain to clients the difference in services. Some clients that are use to wearing acrylic nails they maybe to hard on their gel nails.

I like to start clients like that off with very short gel nails. And let their nails grow out to a nice short length. For those clients that don't want to go short I just let them know you may have a lot of breakage and that turns into a lot of repairs and that leads to more money and time being spent.

Clients love the pink and white french look. And that usually last a client at least 2-3 weeks depending on how fast a clients nails grow. I also have colored gels with those they usually go 2 weeks. Gel nails is a great service to offer to clients that only want manicures. Polish usually last normally around 3-4 days. When gel polish last 2-3 weeks. Thats why clients perfer gel manicure rather then the normal polish manicure.

How to Select a Great Acrylic Brush

Here are a few tips I have come up with when chosen your next or first acrylic brush. Good Luck!!

I thought this would be a great topic. Alot of manicurist do not take the time to choose a great acrylic brush. Chosen the correct acrylic brush will help minimize your application.

1. look for a brush that is 100% Kolinsky versus Kolinsky-Sable blends. Kolinshy brushes is the highest quality and most valuable hair used in artist brush.

2. Also when chosen a brush bend the brush to see if it snaps back in place. If it snaps back in place then that's a keeper.

3. You should choose a brush that is flat and oval in style. This type of brush allows you to work easily with the body of acrylic during application. And also allows you to make a dramatic smile line when creating the permanent french nail design.

4. You should also start with a size #8 brush. A #8 brush allows you to have more control over your brush and allows you to pick up just enough liquid for any nail size.

5. And for a longer lasting acrylic brush find one that is handmade and not milled.

Gel Nails in Houston, Tx is becoming more and more popular. Somepeople seem to be a little confused they think that gels nails are acrylics nails. And that is not true I think those people may have been to a nail salon. Where they have been given acrylic nails with a gel shiny top coat over them. You have to be careful at some nail salons when asking for certain services. Do your research people on any service!!! Because you have nail technician that will tell you anything to make a buck. A Gel nail product looks just like a gel product it's gowey and thick.

I like to educate clients so I tell them anytime you see powder and liquid mixed together. They are giving you acrylic nails.

Gel Hunt

There are soooo many gels out there that are WONDERFUL! And they all provide a little something different. I am hunting and getting a headach trying to decide which one will be best for me and my clients. I have narrowed it down to two fantastic Gel systems. One is CND and the other is Entity a new nail company that has great products. I am lookin for a gel product that will provide flexiablity for my clients and also one that levels its self. CND gel system has great viscosity. The product does not run you can place it where you need and have time to cure the product. But, CND is very thick so you will have a lot of filling to do later if you apply to much because it does not self level very well. The Entity on the other hand is great with self level and the viscosity. You don't have to chase the product and it self levels very well. So you would say ok, why not go with Entity ummmm... I know I should, but Entity does not come in the variety of white shades and pink shades....LMBO!!!.. I will have to think more about that cause Entity also has a version of gels that help cover up nail beds that may have discoloration. And some clients like for there nails to look a natural pink.

So I guess I have found the product I am going with. CND it is!!...LMBO

Gel Nails I love them they will soon replace polish. With gels they your service dries as the service goes along. Which means that by the end of the service your all dry and ready to go. A gel service should take about 15 minutes longer then a regular manicure. Gels come a variety of colors looks just like polish. Clients love gel polish because the service last longer then a regular manicure. Regular polish chips within 3-4 days even if you get a dry manicure your polish will still chip maybe after 5 days. With gels your service last at least 2 weeks. You can problem get the gel manicure to last 3 weeks depending on the color you choose. I have clients that come to see me once a month. Which is great because while they are away doing the other things they love. That gives me time to have other clients in my seat and get things done around the salon that needs to be done.

There are serveral nail companies out there that are making there own line of gels. Which one is great, depends on what you like. You have the soak offs that OPI produce, CND has a gel system which is great that one you file and buff done and fill in like a acrylic set. But, not as strong as acrylics which makes it easy to take off. Entity has a great gel system which I love it's very flexible easy to controll and manage. There are serveral off brands that may work just as well.

I feel like gels are the one of the best things that has happened to me. They are not like they use to be 11 years ago. I hated them I would tell all of my clients not to go with gels. Now the new and improved gels I would rather do those instead of acrylics. They are fun because of the variety of colors and no drying time and also flexible which means you will not have breakage like they use to break back in the day.
